Anxiety affects around 40 million adults in the United States. Generally, anxiety is defined as a feeling of nervousness, uneasiness, or worry that typically occurs throughout the day. Some additional symptoms include fear, heart palpitations, stomach cramps, sleep problems, and cold, tingling extremities. Acupuncture has been very helpful as part of an overall integrative approach to anxiety. This session of group acupuncture will focus specifically on 12 points in the body to help relieve the symptoms of anxiety. Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles in various acupuncture points of the body along meridian lines. These 12 lines (or major channels) allow energy called Chi to circulate around the body. Acupuncturists believe blocks or breaks in the flow of Chi in the energetic system will eventually lead to illness in the physical body. This session will help restore the body's natural flow of Chi, thereby bringing the body back in balance. In the group setting, acupuncture is growing in popularity because of the accessibility to new patients and the low cost. Group acupuncture at the Heit Center is taught by Dr. Allan Bazzoil, M.D. who has been practicing the art and science of both Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than 30 years.
